Avoid doing this, and you could encounter <a href=\"https:\/\/stage.kseal.com\/ie\/expert-advice\/engine-problems\/heater-core\">problems with your heater core<\/a> over time. As this isn\u2019t a job which requires a high level of mechanical knowledge, most car owners should be able to perform it themselves. These hoses allow water to enter, circulate and drain out of the heater core back into the radiator. They therefore need to be removed so water can flushed through the core. If this isn&#8217;t<\/p>\n<h2>How to flush a heater core in 10 simple steps<\/h2>\n<p>After you have gained access to the heater core by removing the dashboard, remove the clamp on the \u201cin\u201d hose using the pliers and screwdriver. Different car models will vary in terms of the process here &#8211; you should consult your vehicle\u2019s handbook if you\u2019re not sure.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Disconnect the \u201cin\u201d hose.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Do the same for the \u201cout\u201d hose.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Attach the garden hose to the \u201cin\u201d side<\/strong> and position the collector pan under the \u201cout\u201d side to catch the used coolant that will leak out.<\/li>\n<li>You may wish to <strong>attach a second length of hose to the \u201cout\u201d side<\/strong> in order to better direct the coolant into the pan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Run the water through the core until it runs clear.<\/strong> The length of time taken here will vary depending on the amount of build-up in the core.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Switch the hose to the \u201cout\u201d side<\/strong> and run the water through in the opposite direction to ensure that everything has been caught and flushed out.<\/li>\n<li>Once you are satisfied that the heater core has been thoroughly and completely flushed out, <strong>reattach the \u201cin\u201d and \u201cout\u201d hoses by re-clamping them in position<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turn on the engine to start reintroducing coolant to the core.<\/strong> It should naturally begin to circulate again.<\/li>\n<li>If you experience leaking within the cabin or the heating doesn\u2019t work, this may mean that something\u2019s gone wrong and <strong>a mechanic may need to be consulted<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You may then wish to <strong>top up coolant levels<\/strong> to replace any that was lost during the process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As far as mechanical know-how is concerned, the only difficulty you might have will be detaching and attaching the hoses with the clamps.
